Finding the Cause of Your Upper Body Pain
We treat a range of issues here at Lichfield Physiotherapy Clinic, so we’ll start by figuring out what the problem is.
Headaches
If you are suffering from painful and long-term headaches, the first thing you should do is see your GP. If you discover you have a neck-related headache (cervicogenic headache), we are able to help.
Typical Problems: Neck-related headaches usually appear when the joints and muscles of the neck have undergone long-term strain.
Treatment Options: To help relieve you of neck-related headaches, we’ll assess your posture and carry out deep tissue massages to help strengthen the muscles.
Neck Pain
Typical causes of neck pain include:
- Whiplash
- Sitting or sleeping awkwardly
- Muscle and ligament strains
- Arthritis
Treatment Options: We can give you a range of exercises to reduce your neck pain, as well as manipulation techniques and massages.
Shoulder pain
Most cases of shoulder pain are relatively short-lived. To increase the recovery rate, the muscles in your shoulder need to strengthen.
Treatment Options: Our professional therapist can take you through strengthening exercises to aid your recovery.
Wrist and hand injuries
Typical Problems: Wrist and hand injuries are usually caused by playing racket sports (tennis, badminton etc.), heavy falls, or a direct blow to the hand.
Treatment Options: We will assess the severity of your injury and supply the most appropriate form of treatment, which usually consists of one or several of the following:
- Wrist braces
- Sports tape
- Resistance bands
- Spikey massage balls
- TENS machine
Tennis Elbow
Typical Problems: Tennis elbow is caused by strain on the tendons in the forearm. Cases of tennis elbow usually are relieved within about two weeks, but if your elbow pains persist, it is worth giving us a call.
Treatment Options: As well as set exercises, to help reduce the pressure on your elbow further, your physiotherapist can provide you with an epicondylitis clasp.
